Michelle Alias quickly fell in love with Modern and Contemporary dance when accepted as a Pre-Professional Company member of Northern California Dance Conservatory where she trained in Ballet, Modern, and Jazz under Jen Bradford, Kelly Archer, and Theodore Constant until moving to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University as a Dance Major on scholarship. While at SMU, Michelle trained under world-renowned faculty members from the Martha Graham Dance Company, Broadway, JAZZDANCE, New York City Ballet, Houston Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet.
After graduating, she moved back to Northern California where she was a faculty member, Ambassador Program Associate Director, and NCDC Student Teacher Education Program Director at Northern California Dance Conservatory. NCDC alumni have gone on to dance with Nederlands Dans Theatre II, The Cullberg Ballet, Liz Gerring Dance Company, Eugene Ballet Company, State Street Ballet, The Julliard School, London School of Contemporary Dance, New York University, Boston Conservatory, SUNY Purchase, University of Arizona, and Southern Methodist University. Michelle was also a faculty member at The Conservatory of Dance and Performing Arts and choreographer for Ballet Rejoice. Recently she has danced with Chadash Contemporary Dance Movement, Stranded Artists Movement Projects (currently Ballet Novita), and Pneuma Movement Contemporary Dance Company. Michelle is excited to announce that she will be the dance director at Justin-Siena High School in Napa, CA this Fall.
Michelle is currently obtaining her MA in Education (Teaching Dance) from the Royal Academy of Dance and the University of Bath. Her passion as a teacher is to foster self-sufficient, creative, and joyful artists by constructively developing technical skills while encouraging artistic exploration. It is her aim to accomplish all of this with fun and engaging curriculum while intentionally building open and safe relationships with her students. Michelle believes firmly in the transformative power of performance and choreography and seeks to educate dancers who extract experiences from the world around them and through dance, begin to reshape that world into something beautiful.
